Evacuation Update

It is with heavy hearts that we share this update. Back in July, news spread that gang violence in Haiti was rapidly escalating and moving closer to our family and mission home in Charrier. Sadly, this forced everyone to evacuate the area for their safety. Our homes were broken into, everything was stolen, and JJMH is no longer what it once was.

By God’s grace, our family is safe in Jacmel for now. Our staff, students, and their families have all fled to wherever they could find safety. We praise our Almighty God for His provision of protection and shelter in the midst of a country torn by civil unrest. Even in this, we will not lose hope in God’s plan for Haiti.

For our mission, this means things will look very different moving forward. Our families and friends are scattered across the country, but we remain committed to helping wherever we can. We are in touch with several families who have found safety and schools for their children, and we plan to support as many of our students as possible in continuing their education. On average, schooling costs about $300 per year per student.

We also hope to assist those from our community who are struggling to rebuild their lives in new places.

Please continue to pray for Haiti — for the church to unite and support one another, and for light, hope, strength, and encouragement for families trapped within their own country. Pray with us for wisdom as we discern how best to move forward and how God would have us serve our church family and community in Haiti.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your continued prayers and support.

With love and gratitude,
Mario and Melissa & Family
